Students and staff tune in to create band harmony

|July 04, 2025
A HIGH school wind band is hitting the high notes as more than 40 students and staff are eager to play.
Whitworth Community High School has always had a band, but director of learning for creativity Mrs Goff remembers 21 years ago, when she started at the school, it was a lot smaller.
She said: "It has gone in waves ever since and at the moment we are on the crest of one with the head of English, a science teacher, two music teachers, an assistant headteacher and the headteacher playing along with former staff and students.
"We had an assembly on Thursday (June 19) and five students who had finished school on the Wednesday having completed their GCSEs returned the day after to play with the school band."
Part of the attraction has to be the wide-ranging music that they play, everything from classical to an Abba medley, marches to Thriller and Toy Story's You've Got A Friend In Me.
