Delight as time capsule found in historic school

A time capsule hidden in the wall of a fireravaged Perth primary school over a century ago has been found and will be handed over to Culture Perth and Kinross on Friday.

Last month it emerged the hunt was on for the hidden historic item at Balhousie Primary School - formerly Northern District Primary School which is currently being torn down.

The Victorian listed building suffered extensive damage after a fire on June 22, and a Dangerous Buildings Notice was subsequently issued.

Perth and Kinross Council and the contractors involved in the demolition of the building have been working to locate the time capsule concealed within the building’s stonework.

Newspaper reports from 1908 said the capsule - reported to have contained a photo of school board members and officials, newspapers and documents - was placed in a hole in the foundation stone to the right of the Victorian building’s main entrance.
