Mill's milestones celebrated by staff

One year on from the announcement of its new ownership and building renovations, Glenlyon Tweed Mill in Aberfeldy is marking its first and 175th anniversaries by celebrating the impressive strides made under new ownership.

Established by P &JHaggart Ltd in 1850, the historic Scottish mill was taken over by the parent company that oversees tweed, tartan and tailoring specialists Stewart Christie & Co in December lastyear.

The world-renowned mill has continued to operate as a separate business and manufacture its distinctive collection of fabrics for a range of customers, including designers, tailors and several country and sporting estates.

The fabrics, which are inspired by one of Scotland's most beautiful glens, are created sustainably to last a lifetime.

The new owners have revealed that maintenance on the mill's windows, woodwork and exterior painting has been completed, alongside improvements to the upstairs and downstairs lighting system.

‘The showroom is now open tothe public, with replenished tweed stocks and new yarn purchases.

Ayounger apprenticeship program is being created through collaboration with local schools and libraries, while currentapprentice Isaac has excelled in mastering the looms, significantly enhancing the production knowledge of themill within justfivemonths.
