AI student receives scholarship for work to help Mali

ROBOTICS and artificial intelligence student who plans to use his expertise to make his home country of Mali more prosperous has been recognised for his volunteering.

Twenty-year-old Broulaye Coulibaly was awarded an Edge Hill scholarship for his efforts to help improve the prospects of orphaned children in his hometown on the outskirts of Mali's capital, Bamako.

Keen for the young people there to build on their established clothes-making skills, Broulaye supported them in creating and using an online sales platform, giving them business experience and raising vital funds for the orphanage - a project still going strong.

And his innovative 'hangman'-style game vastly improved interaction in classes he led to boost their French language skills.

Seventy per cent of the young people he worked with passed their foundation studies diploma.
