BARRY BOSTWICK, STAR OF THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, CHATS TO MARION MCMULLEN ABOUT COMING TO THE UK TO CELEBRATE THE ENDURING APPEAL OF THE CULT CLASSIC FILM

What is your strongest memory of filming the Rocky Horror Picture Show in the UK in the 1970s?

It was miserable, a miserable shoot, but what made it worthwhile was the people.

Just because there wasn’t a bathroom on the set doesn’t mean that you couldn’t go round the corner into the bushes and when you got back on the set you loved everybody there. You loved to watch the eccentricities of all these actors.

I think I was very connected to playing Brad Majors (Barry's character in the movie] because I probably was like that in high school. Even though the circumstances of filming were miserable, the experience was brilliant.

I wept at the end of filming because we knew we were making something special.

Was it the first time you had visited the UK?

Back in the 70s, yeah. It was the punk time and I couldn't take my eyes of the hairdos and the colours of the hair in the streets.

I was a big fan of street markets and I was obsessed and buying little things. I bought a couple of watches thinking, "Oh, look at this, it's an old Rolex", and then I brought it back to the States and it wasn't a Rolex, but a Timex and they had changed the name.

I had a very good introduction into what to do, and what not to do in London and I did many series there afterwards.

Are you looking forward to touring the UK for The Rocky Horror Picture Show 50th Anniversary Spectacular, with Patricia Quinn, who played Magenta, and Nell Campbell, who was Columbia?
