Late-night licence for restaurant that only has one-star food hygiene rating

A NOTTINGHAM city centre restaurant in need of major hygiene improvements will be allowed to put on films, music and late-night refreshment - despite concerns from a landlord.

The Red Sea café and restaurant, which serves Ethiopian and Arabian cuisines, is at 19-21 Manvers Street and was given a one-star rating following its most recent food hygiene inspection on June 25 by the Food Standards Agency.

Major improvement was needed in the management of food safety, and improvement was required in hygienic food handling - but cleanliness of the building was deemed generally satisfactory.

When contacted, owner Isak Ghile said he had "repaired everything they said we needed to do" - and added "everything is OK now". He further welcomed the granting of a new premises licence at a Nottingham City Council hearing on Wednesday.
