End is not quite nigh for unsightly car park
Nottingham Post
|June 02, 2025
THE demolition of a Nottingham NCP car park dubbed a “monstrosity” will not be an early part of the wider Broad Marsh redevelopment.
Nottingham City Council’s leader says it would not make sense to demolish the structure immediately while it is still making income for NCP.
The 400-space car park on Maid Marian Way blocks the view of Nottingham Castle from parts of the Broad Marsh area and its future demolition has been welcomed by many.
Experts have also outlined how the demolition paves the way for further changes to the layout of Maid Marian Way.
Confirming the demolition won't happen imminently, Councillor Neghat Khan said the immediate focus would be demolishing the frame of the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre and the area that will house a major NHS diagnostic centre.
She said: “I don’t think the car park is going to happen straight away. I think it’s the diagnostic centre and taking down part of the frame, and that should be happening together with the same contractor.
“Both of them are linked together and then the car park will happen. I think it’s just about phasing it out. I don’t think it’s about demolishing the car park just for it to sit there, while at the moment they are making some income”
