'Porcelain Poltergeist' back up to old tricks

EVERY Christmas, something - or someone - is smashing hand made pottery at a craft collective in one of North Devon's oldest buildings.

But with no signs of a break-in, the mystery has only deepened.

Fifty Crates of Crafts, an independent arts and crafts collective based in a Grade II-listed building in Appledore, has once again reported unexplained breakages as the festive season begins.

The recurring phenomenon, dubbed the 'Porcelain Poltergeist" by locals, has become an unsettling annual tradition.

The building, originally constructed in 1604, has housed the collective since its founding. Each December, shortly after Christmas decorations are put up, staff arrive to find at least one piece of handmade pottery inexplicably smashed on the floor. Alarms remain silent, entryways untouched and other nearby items undisturbed.
