'Sign' row as Alan is hit by £100 airport fine

A PENSIONER has hit out at the new online payment for dropping off at Manchester Airport after he was fined £100 for a three-minute visit.

Alan Jones, 75, from Macclesfield, says there is insufficient signage to indicate this is now the method drivers must use as they leave terminal two.

So when there were no barriers in his way when he left, Alan assumed that he had 'got lucky' and had dropped off his friend during a period when they were being replaced so no charge was due.

But on Wednesday, June 25, he was shocked to receive a £100 fine - or parking charge as it is called - through the post.

It is discounted to £60 if paid within two weeks.

Manchester Airport says it has recently 'increased the number and prominence of signs' and there was 'an extensive awareness campaign' ahead of going barrierless.
