Second bid to demolish shopping centre refused

PLANS to demolish a shopping centre have hit a major roadblock after the council rejected an application from developers.

The proposal to knock down Carillon Court in Loughborough’s Swan Street, as well as its multi-storey car park, has been ruled to require full planning permission from officials.

Charnwood Borough Council rejected the application from Mr Lewis, of Leicester Commercial Ltd, which sought to determine whether prior approval was needed for the demolition.

Fears the site could be replaced with student accommodation have been longstanding and labelled a “disgrace” by some opponents.
