EFF leader recounts choking ordeal in Cape Town Council

‘I WAS LOSING LIFE’
EFF caucus leader in the City of Cape Town, Mzubani Dambuza, has given a blow-by-blow account of how he lost consciousness while being choked by a security officer during a Council sitting on Wednesday, saying he begged them to allow him to get up and walk out of the Chambers.
The peace officer identified in a video as Renato Reid, which went viral on social media, shows him allegedly choking Dambuza while apparently pinning him to the ground.
According to Reid’s LinkedIn profile, he is a SWAT Operational Commander with 18 years experience in the South African police.
His profile was shared widely on social media following the incident.
Cape Town Speaker, Felicity Purchase, said the confrontation started after Dambuza refused to leave the Council Chambers when she asked him to.
