NEXT GENERATION OF SPORTING SUPERSTARS TO RECEIVE SUPPORT

'We hope to continue to make a real difference to our athletes' success'

THE next generation of sporting superstars will receive vital support from leisure centres in Burton and Uttoxeter.

Everyone Active's Sporting Champions scheme, now in its ninth year, is set to help a new group of aspiring athletes by providing free access to Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton-uponTrent, Shobnall Leisure Complex, and Uttoxeter Leisure Centre.

Among the athletes in East Staffordshire chosen for this year's sports talent development programme are:

Burton-upon-Trent’s Freya Manton, 15, who won the 100m under-15 county title last year and raced at the National Indoor Championships over 60m in February - she trains at Shobnall Leisure Complex.

Uttoxeter swimmer Ben Twynham, 19, who competed at Olympic trials last year and qualified for British selection trials in 2025 - he trains at Uttoxeter Leisure Centre.

At the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, no fewer than 26 Sporting Champions competed, taking home nine gold, six silver and eight bronze medals collectively.
