RESIDENTS ARE FED UP AS NEW HOMES CONTINUE TO BE BUILT
Burton Mail
|August 15, 2025
WITH “no shops, no services, not enough buses, a rising population and expensive homes”, Doveridge residents have had enough of feeling disproportionately targeted.
The 2021 census shows the village has a population of 1,760, which rose 8.5 per cent (138 people) from 2011 when it sat at 1,622. That increase puts its population growth second highest when compared with Derby and the Derbyshire districts, sitting only behind South Derbyshire (13.3 per cent).
Doveridge has seen three medium to large-scale housing developments in the past 10 years, and a new scheme would represent the fourth.
While the village sits in Derbyshire, most of the services required by its residents - including its nearest secondary school, doctor, dentist and supermarket - involve hopping the border to Uttoxeter in Staffordshire.
Asking residents about the incoming plans from Miller Homes for 110 new homes off Derby Road, on maize fields between the A50 and the village, one villager said: “The infrastructure needs building up first.
