Plans to demolish a part of 'dilapidated' shopping centre for future revamp

The Maltings has been set for regeneration since 2023 with the final consultation on the plans closing last year.

The final scheme was set to be applied for in February, however a decision to separate the demolition from the wider regeneration project caused a delay.

Now a phased demolition is set to take place, which will allow continued use of the area. Once all works have been completed, a temporary scheme will be in place before the final regeneration works take place.

In total, 19 of the 24 units in the precinct will be demolished, which have been unlettable for some time due to their condition, according to the demolition application.

The statement reads: "By being vacant for a long period of time, the units had become dilapidated with no activity in the units creating further concern for their condition which was declining.
