GARY Bowyer says it is no secret that an experienced midfielder is on his shopping list before the transfer window closes in a fortnight.

- By COLSTON CRAWFORD

The lack of depth and experience in the centre of midfield was evident when Kegs Chauke came off injured after 58 minutes against Barnsley last week.

The young holding midfielder had been struggling at halftime and the injury may have been a factor when he gave the ball away in the move which led to Barnsley’s first goal just before he came off.

Burton signed James Jones from Wrexham for experience in the centre of the park last season but he has had a torrid time with injuries and October is the time for his predicted return to action if there are no more setbacks.

Asked at his weekly press conference if central midfield was a priority in terms of his shopping list, Bowyer said: “I don't mind us make our squad bigger without having extra numbers.”

admitting that - because it’s there for all to see.

“But admitting it is one thing, finding one and then convincing them to come is the other thing.

“Yes, they are rare, especially the ones that we're looking for and the types that we are after.”
