SOMERSET’S hopes of retaining their Vitality T20 Blast title and reaching a sixth successive Finals Day are hanging by a thread after a 36-run defeat to Worcestershire Rapids on Sunday.

Cricket We didn't bowl well enough, says Kerr, after latest T20 setback

Having reached the last three finals, and started with successive wins, Somerset have now lost five of the last six and probably will need to win their final four matches to have any chance of sneaking into the quarter-finals.

After a mixed start with the bat, the Rapids were lifted by an unbroken 58-run partnership between Sikandar Raza (46) and Brett D’Oliveira (41 not out), who accelerated the innings to a competitive total of 180.

Somerset's chase began steadily with Tom Banton and James Rew making starts, but Worcestershire seized control midway through the innings.

Usama Mir (3-34) triggered a collapse of three wickets for three runs, while Matthew Waite produced another impressive spell to help secure a win that keeps the Rapids’ hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive.
