Workwear factory staff to strike in row over pay rise

More than 50 Johnsons workers will walk out on strike

Staff were offered a 2.8 per cent increase and overwhelmingly rejected what Unite the union said is a “real terms pay cut’.

Unite said as inflation is currently at 4.6 per cent this offer would worsen the cost-of-living crisis where housing, food and utility prices are rising faster than wages.

“Tt is completely unacceptable that a company like Johnson who are making money hand over fist think that they can squeeze our members’ pay,” said Unite general secretary Sharon Graham.

“Its workforce deserve a pay award that means they can puta roof over their heads, food on their plates and pay their bills.
