More houses put up for auction

The state planning unit has raised concerns about mortgage borrowers as new data shows a significant increase in homes being seized and put up for auction.

According to Onfa Vejjajiva, secretary-general of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), data from the Real Estate Information Center shows in the second quarter of 2025, residential properties seized and put up for auction reached 67,600 units, up 210% year-on-year.

She said the risk of household indebtedness is particularly high among homes affected by flooding, especially in the agricultural sector.

Ms Onfa said the first priority needs to be supporting mortgage borrowers before they enter the legal foreclosure process so that they do not lose their homes.

Second is improving access to credit for households affected by flooding, she said. For example, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives has issued various loan programmes, such as a 20-billion-baht emergency credit line, with each borrower eligible for up to 50,000 baht at 0% interest for the first six months, as well as rehabilitation loans of up to 500,000 baht per household.
