Singapore offers emergency assistance to Hat Yai

Singapore has offered urgent flood-relief assistance to Hat Yai after at least 200 Singaporean tourists were reported stranded amid severe flooding in southern Thailand, Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow announced yesterday.

According to Mr Sihasak, Singapore's foreign minister, Vivian Balakrishnan, confirmed that this number of Singaporean tourists are still unable to leave the area, including several elderly travellers stranded at Hat Yai Airport.
During a phone conversation with his Thai counterpart, Singapore’s foreign minister offered personnel, inflatable rescue boats, and essential supplies should Thailand require additional support.
Officials have also estimated that between 2,000 and 3,000 Malaysian tourists were affected at the peak of the flooding.
