Fence planned to protect bowling green from more vandalism

ACTION is being taken to protect a council-owned bowling green that was vandalised with a swastika in earlier this year.

Hyndburn Council has submitted a planning application to fence the green off to prevent further damage to the turf at Accrington’s Oakhill Park in Manchester Road.

In January, vandals carved a swastika, a phallic symbol, and a racist word into the carefully manicured green, leading to warnings that it could take months to fully repair the turf.

The news of the application has been welcomed by local Barnfield ward Labour councillor Mike Booth and his Baxenden ward Tory colleague Cllr David Heap.
