OK, not everyone, but celebrity couples, including Jessica Alba and Cash Warren, Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson and Courtney Ford and Brandon Routh, are three high-profile examples of a universal pattern that family lawyers clocked years ago.

So, with some legal firms noticing an increase in divorce applications by as much as 33 percent every January, why does the first month of the year see so many couples deciding to call it quits?
