The talk show host opens up about his latest projects • and how he remains so vibrant despite MS

For more than 30 years, television viewers have turned to talk show veteran Montel Williams to entertain, inform and inspire them. Currently, the former host of The Montel Williams Show can be found on two Lifetime programs, The Balancing Act, a morning show aimed at busy women, and Military Makeover With Montel, a home-improvement series spotlighting veteran families. Montel also hosts two podcasts and is looking forward to the May publication of a book he co-authored on the history of the USS Intrepid battleship.

The TV personality, 68, is thankful for his extraordinary life. "Despite the challenges of living with MS and surviving a stroke, I've managed to maintain a positive outlook and stay active," Montel tells Closer. "It's all about taking care of your health and staying committed to your goals."

What was your childhood like?

I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. My parents were very supportive and instilled in me the values of hard work and perseverance. They always encouraged me to pursue my dreams, which laid the foundation for my future endeavors.

You enlisted in the Marines at 18. Did your parents approve?

My parents were incredibly supportive of my decision to join the Marines, and equally supportive when I decided to transition into the entertainment industry. They believed in my potential and always encouraged me to follow my passion.
