TABLETS AND capsules remain the most preferred dosage forms because they can be accurately dosed, provide good patient compliance, are easy to manufacture and can be produced at a relatively low cost. This popularity of tablets coupled with an increased understanding of the physics of compression and manufacturing process variables have matured tablet manufacturing as a science in its own right. Tablets are manufactured primarily by either granulation or direct compression. The simplicity and cost effectiveness of the direct compression process has positioned this technique as an attractive alternative to traditional granulation techniques.
