The Kalahari has a way of casting its spell on hunters, drawing them back with its vastness, red dunes and stillness. It is a place close to the heart of our hunting editor, Stefan Fouché, who took on the challenge of hunting a lioness on foot there among tall grass and dense bush in wet conditions. The Kalahari has also captivated Nico Kotzé, who went hunting with friends in the red dunes of the Namibian Kalahari, taking oryx and springbuck (p 16).
