They say home is where the heart is — a phrase so familiar it risks cliché. However, we are no further from the evergreen truth. It is where we feel loved, safe and comfortable, a sense of belonging and identity. For some, it is the spaces we retreat to and the people we hold close to; for others, it could be the clothes we wear or the music we listen to. In this Men’s Folio August ’25 issue, the theme “Home Is Where the Heart Is” celebrates the moments that anchor us amidst the ever-changing world. An ever-changing world is certainly the reality of today, where something as intimate and sacred as home can be threatened, or even wiped from existence. It feels especially heavy to speak of homely comforts when so many across the world are caught in turmoil. We count ourselves fortunate to feel safe and rooted here in Singapore, but we hold space for those enduring conflict in the lands beyond our red and white borders. As the nation heralds SG60, it calls for both celebration and quiet reflection on the comforts of home, and the resilience and hope of those who long for it. My hope is that home does not become a luxury for some.
