Millennium Hotels and Resorts introduces its lifestyle imprint, M Social Resort Penang, to Penang, reflecting the island's layered identity with a property that is neither a city centre nor a beachside cliché.
In Penang's Tanjung Bungah, which translates to “Flower Cape” in Bahasa Melayu, a new hotel has bloomed. M Social Resort Penang is the latest addition to Millennium Hotels and Resorts’ (MHR) lineup of lifestyle properties, reborn from the former Copthorne Orchid Hotel instead of built from scratch. However, unlike many stylish entrants that parachute into heritage-laden towns in hopes of standing out, this one speaks the local language fluently.
MHR, the Singapore-based hospitality group owned by City Developments Limited, oversees 145 properties across 80 destinations spread over four continents. Yet its recent opening of the resort suggests something more deliberate — the growth of its M Social brand, a design-forward and culturally attuned collection that signals a hospitality philosophy valuing relevance over replication.
