With a number of National Parks, Wildlife Reserves, transit homes and special shelters for elephants, and bird sanctuaries, Sri Lanka is an enticing destination for wildlife lovers and those seeking the draw of nature.
The Sambar Deer with its large antlers is seen especially in the cool Horton Plains, the Sloth Bear has the seasonal bounties of rich food from trees, and the beautiful Hoopoe is a delight at wildlife safaris.
The Kolam Dance is a spectacular performance in the southern coastal belt; a dance by characters wearing colourful masks depicting deities and demons, dancing to the beat of a ‘demon drum’.
The Colombo Harbour dates back to the Portuguese and Dutch colonizers. There is a revival of the transport links between the harbour and internal rivers and canals. The Beira Lake is now moving to the transport of people, to ease the city traffic, bringing new delight to the urban traveller and foreign visitor.
