The missing festival float

The day before Clarkesville’s Fall Festival, organizer Amy Wyatt was finishing her checklist for the annual parade. Community businesses went all out, competing for cash prizes and town bragging rights. Amy was tracking down the participants who had forgotten to sign waivers.

First, she popped into the antique store to get proprietor Scott Parker’s signature. As Amy walked through the parking lot, she spied a tarp-covered trailer. “He always has such beautiful floats,” Amy mused, peeking beneath the tarp. But the trailer was bare except for scraps of green crepe paper.

“What are you doing?” Scott stormed across the lot.

“I'm collecting waivers. I brought extra copies...”

Scott angrily waved her off. “We changed our mind. We aren't participating this year.”

He yanked the tarp back over the trailer and stalked back into his shop.

“Oh dear,” Amy made a note on her checklist.
