Healthy with fall hobbies!

Dial down stress with a fun scare!

Look forward to fun frights like horror movies, ghost tours and haunted houses? They tame stress! Sounds counterintuitive, but research from the University of Pittsburgh shows that exposing yourself to safe scares triggers euphoria once it's over. It deactivates areas of the brain involved in tension, leaving you calm.

Sleep better with farm-fresh apples

Enjoy visiting farmstands and farmers markets? Then you already know that you'll find apples, pumpkins, corn, spinach, sweet potatoes and other seasonal produce at their tastiest right now. But what you might find surprising is that these same foods also improve your sleep. University of Michigan scientists found that women who eat the most fruits and vegetables fall asleep faster, reach deeper stages of sleep and feel more rested upon awakening. Produce delivers vitamins and minerals that improve sleep, such as magnesium (found in pumpkin and spinach), which helps create the sleep hormone melatonin.

A new Florida State University study found that people who dance about 3 hours a week experience a significant improvement in sleep length and quality.

The Mary Tyler Moore SHOW

From That Girl in the 1960s to Ally McBeal in the 1990s to Sex and the City in the 2000s, television has long reflected the shifting image of independent women. Yet the true game-changer came in 1970, when The Mary Tyler Moore Show introduced Mary Richards—30, single, stylish and making her way in a newsroom full of men. Rather than being someone’s wife or daughter, she was the star, and she changed television forever. Join us for a look back at rare behind-the-scenes photos of the groundbreaking show as we celebrate its 55th anniversary.

Happy money, happy holidays

The holidays are here (yay!), and with them comes both joy and, let's be honest, stress. For many of us, the shopping lists, entertaining costs or the ache of an empty chair at the table can dim the sparkle of the season. If that's you, please accept my wishes that the days land lightly.
