Sheriff Jones' voice groaned on the speakerphone.

"You know her?" Prewitt asked suspiciously.

"I sure do. She's a self-proclaimed psychic."

"And widely proclaimed weirdo," Angela added.

"Could she be involved with all this?" Prewitt said.

Angela shook her head. "Eunice is 93, and bedridden. Oddly enough, though, her 'visions' and 'hints' have helped us in the past. We can't ignore what she gives us."

"What did she give us?" Sheriff Jones asked.

"A puzzle," Prewitt said. From his notes, he read, "The thief's first name does not contain the letter that first appears in the number 1,000."

"What?!" the sheriff yelled.
