Keep an eagle eye on this masterpiece. There's no need to wing it: We've got complete instructions right here.

1 Set a large watermelon in a shallow bowl of ice. Use a chalk marker to draw an eagle on the front or go to womansday.com/stencil to download a template.

2 Carve the design into the surface with a linoleum-cutting tool, exposing just the white layer of flesh. Cut off the top of the melon with a sharp knife

3 Hollow out the melon with a melon baller, saving a few big pieces to cut into stars for skewers. Fill the rind with melon balls and additional fruit. Enjoy!

let's have a picnic!

Sew together nine bandannas of the same size (here, 22" square) in a 3-by-3 grid, then secure to a piece of waterproof canvas such as Ottertex. Add quilting knots to the bandannas centers to hold the layers together.
