Long before she had six Golden Guitars under her belt – and was inducted into Australian country music’s prestigious Hands of Fame in Tamworth – Melinda Schneider was just a three-year-old on a ukulele, learning Barbra Streisand’s moving 1973 ballad The Way We Were. Now, in a full circle moment, the 54-year-old singer is touring the country this August celebrating the songs and life of the music and movie icon.

Why Barbra?

I’ve always loved Babs! And I’ve always wanted to do a show about Barbra. I love the fact that she’s so versatile. She’s done everything from musical theatre to torch songs and I love being versatile in my singing as well.

Did you go back and watch The Way We Were film to get in the zone for this tour?

Yeah, I’ve been watching quite a few of her films. She was just so amazing in her youth. You couldn’t take your eyes off her. On
