Meet the tiny bub helping heal the Tougher family's hearts

Cradling her newborn daughter in her arms, Madison Tougher can see her heroic husband Steven lives on in his little girl.

“Your dad would be so proud of you,” says the new mum, smiling down at cute Lily-Mae Stevie Tougher.

It’s been nearly three months since Steven was killed in a horrific attack while on paramedic duty, in a tragedy that shocked the nation. His daughter was born on May 18, just 34 days later.

“He was really looking forward to being a dad and that breaks my heart more than anything. We were so close,” says Madison. “He used to get his stethoscope and listen to her heartbeat.”

The young mum recalls the moment the couple knew they were having a daughter and how Steven had picked out Lily-Mae’s name.
