7 SEX MISTAKES WE'RE ALL MAKING
WOMAN'S OWN
|November 17, 2025
It's never too late to learn how to improve things in the bedroom
Relationship in a rut? Bored between the sheets? The good news is it’s easy to spot – and sort – the same sex slip-ups that are made again and again.
Follow our expert advice to help fix these common mistakes before the flame of passion has the chance to go out completely.
1 Skipping foreplay
Sex in TV and films is often portrayed as rip-your-clothes-off passionate, which is why many couples fall into the pattern of rushing through foreplay to get to the ‘action’. ‘The problem is that when every sexual encounter you have with your partner is on fast-forward, desire and enjoyment often fade,’ says relationship therapist Aly Bullock (paired.com). You may notice you or your partner regularly feel unsatisfied or disconnected afterwards. Another clue is when one of you feels like they're having sex without being turned on.
SORT IT ‘Keep the acronym ASAP in your head – “As Slow As Possible”’, advises Aly. ‘Not every experience needs to be long, but balancing “quickies” with slower intimacy (lingering touches, playful teasing and lots of foreplay), will help keep connection and desire alive.’
2 Going through the motions
'We all crave the familiar because it makes us feel safe,' says relationship expert Gina Guddat (ginaguddat.com).
