Embrace... colour and pattern

Shift out of neutral and move towards bolder colours, earthy tones and eye-catching patterns

* EARTHY HUES Forget clinical white, this year warmer colours are key. '2025 is about investing in classic colours but taking them down a richer route than before,' says Grazzie Wilson, head of creative at Ca' Pietra. 'Look to earthy tones, from coffee brown and milky latte to rich terracotta that warms up a bathroom in a nanosecond, as well as more pigmented colours like deep blues that take their cue from ocean depths.'

*COLOUR DRENCH 'How we use colour will make walls more interesting,' says Jen Thompson, senior furniture designer at Roper Rhodes. 'Colour drenching with tiles or paint will replace neatly bordered walls and trims, with tonal colours stretching from floor to ceiling.'

* VERSATILE TERRAZZO Terrazzo is back, but bigger and bolder than before, making it easy to add colour without overwhelming bathrooms with busy patterns. Larger aggregates and brighter colour combinations give a more modern, playful look while oversized tile formats create a seamless effect. Use on splashbacks to add impact or extend to counters and floors for continuous colour.

* PATTERN PLAY 'Mixing and matching tiles, whether through colour, shape, size or pattern, can instantly transform your bathroom into the cutting-edge world of design,' says Barrie Cutchie, design director at BC Designs. 'If carefully thought out, applying two, three or even more tile types can suit all decors.'
