MET GALA 2025

The annual haute couture fundraising festival, the Met Gala 2025 celebrated the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Exploring the importance of clothing and style in shaping Black identities within the Atlantic diaspora, this new showcase drew inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

The exhibit, organised into 12 sections, represented each characteristic that defines the dandy style. Reflecting this, the dress code for the 2025 Met Gala was dubbed “Tailored for You” in tribute to the show’s focus on menswear and suiting.

Upon the event’s official opening, the star-studded committee—Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams—joined Anna Wintour as co-chairs. Highlighting India’s global reach, several Indian artists flocked to the most prestigious and glamorous fashion event of the year. From Bollywood king Shah Rukh Khan to Punjab’s sensation Diljit Dosanjh, everybody left their mark on the iconic blue carpet, created by Extraweave, a design house from Kerala. Public figures like Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani, Isha Ambani, Natasha Poonawalla and Manish Malhotra also flaunted their ensembles that felt like an extension to their idiosyncratic style.
