To mark the 10th anniversary of the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time, Patek Philippe releases a new iteration for travellers who measure life in moments, not notifications. By Laura Barry

When Patek Philippe unveiled the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Reference 5524G-001 at the Baselworld watch fair in 2015, it most certainly turned heads. Some felt it represented a curious deviation from the brand's traditional aesthetics. Yet, for Patek purists, it was an acknowledgement of the manufacture’s brief foray into aviation timepieces during the early 20th century. The 5524G-001 drew upon two historic hour angle wristwatches designed for military aviators in the pre-World War II era that enabled pilots to calculate their position over the open sea long before the advent of GPS.
