Apple unveiled significant upgrades to the Files app in iPadOS 26 at WWDC 2025, addressing long-standing user complaints about file management on iPad.

The Files app now features an updated List view with resizable columns and collapsible folders, allowing users to see detailed document information, such as Date Modified, Kind, and Size, at a glance. Users can adjust column widths to prioritize specific data, overcoming the previous limitation of fixed column sizes that obscured file names or details. This change enables efficient navigation, as users can expand or collapse folders to focus on relevant content without opening multiple screens, enhancing productivity on iPad.

CUSTOMIZABLE FOLDER ORGANIZATION

Folder customization is a standout addition, letting users assign custom colors, icons, and emoji to folders for quick identification. These visual cues sync across devices via iCloud, ensuring a consistent experience. Users can also drag any folder from the Files app directly to the iPad's Dock, providing instant access to frequently used documents or downloads. This feature, inspired by macOS, streamlines workflows by keeping essential folders readily available without navigating through the app.
