India has surpassed China as the leading exporter of smartphones to the United States, according to a new report, signaling a pivotal shift in global tech manufacturing.

INDIA SURPASSES CHINA IN SMARTPHONE EXPORTS TO U.S. AS MANUFACTURING SOARS 240%

The development comes amid a dramatic 240% year-over-year increase in India's smartphone exports to the U.S., driven by a combination of geopolitical dynamics, policy incentives, and multinational companies restructuring their supply chains.

Data compiled in the latest trade analysis by the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) and reported by the Ministry of Commerce reveals that Indian-made smartphones now account for the largest share of U.S. imports by volume, overtaking shipments from China for the first time in more than a decade.

The surge reflects the success of India’s aggressive push to become a global manufacturing hub for consumer electronics— and highlights how U.S. buyers and tech giants are diversifying away from Chinese assembly lines in response to rising tariffs, export controls, and supply chain security concerns.

imageMAJOR BRANDS SHIFT PRODUCTION TO INDIA

Apple, Samsung, and other major smartphone manufacturers have significantly ramped up production in India over the past two years. Apple alone is now assembling multiple iPhone models— including its flagship iPhone 15 series—through suppliers such as Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron operating in southern Indian states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
