Basketball is the sport of choice in the Philippines. You can see it played in every barangay, from makeshift hoops to full-sized basketball courts. Basketball was introduced to the Philippines in 1910, and the first men's national team won the Far Eastern Championship Games in 1913, with the country joining the FIBA in 1936. The rest, they say, is history, as local leagues such as the PBA and international leagues such as the NBA have large followings in the Philippines.
