India as a nation is heading towards rapid urbanisation. This pace of urbanisation needs updated power infrastructure especially when we speak of wires and cables sector. To meet high load densities and space constraints, industry leaders are deploying compact, hybrid-ready cable solutions that integrate seamless power transmission with high-integrity data communication that ensures resilient and future-ready urban grids. Industry experts analyse the ongoing advancement in the sector necessary to match the requirements of the power landscape.
Supporting high-density, AI-driven urban networks
The urban area of the country is witnessing a transition toward smarter, more digitised power ecosystem. Here the electrical infrastructure is being redefined by high load densities, space constraints and the growing role of artificial intelligence in grid management. And in this shift, advanced cable solutions can seamlessly support both power transmission and high-integrity data communication in complex electromagnetic environments. Following the trend the cable industry has updated its offerings and solutions.
Vinay Rathi, Director of Gloster Cables, shares how urbanisation is reshaping cable design priorities. “For urban centres, we offer the most compacted cables in India, featuring near-zero gaps between conductors to optimise space in high-density areas,” he says. These compact designs are critical for congested ducts and substations where every millimetre matters. Rathi adds that Gloster’s solutions are paired with advanced sheathing options such as HR-FRLSH, “which supports the continuous high-load demands and digital monitoring needs of AI-driven energy systems.” Such materials enhance safety, thermal endurance and reliability, all essential for round-the-clock urban power consumption.
