PERPLEXITY'S MAX PLAN ENTERS THE AI PREMIUM RACE
AppleMagazine
|July 11, 2025
Perplexity, a fast-growing AI search startup, has launched Perplexity Max, a $200-permonth subscription plan designed for power users, positioning the company alongside heavyweights like OpenAl and Anthropic in the high-stakes AI market.
-
A POWERFUL NEW TIER
The plan, also available for $2,000 annually, offers unlimited access to Perplexity's Labs tool, early access to experimental features like the Comet AI browser, priority support, and top-tier models such as OpenAl's 03-pro and Anthropic's Claude Opus 4. The move, announced in a company blog, targets professionals, researchers, and content creators needing robust AI capabilities.
Founded in 2022 by former OpenAl and Google Brain researchers, Perplexity has surged to a $14 billion valuation, processing 780 million queries in May alone with 20% monthly growth. The Max plan, now available on web and iOS with Android support coming soon, aims to capitalize on this momentum, offering unmatched productivity tools.
However, its steep price-matching OpenAl's ChatGPT Pro-raises questions about accessibility in a market where $20 plans like Perplexity Pro suffice for most.
The launch comes amid rumors of a potential $25-$30 billion Apple acquisition, which could integrate Perplexity's real-time, citation-backed search into Siri. With $34 million in 2024 revenue against $65 million in costs, the Max plan is a bid to boost margins, but legal challenges, like a BBC copyright complaint, and fierce competition test its path forward.
