PAYPAL UNVEILS GLOBAL PAYMENT PLATFORM TO SIMPLIFY CROSS-BORDER TRANSFERS FOR 2 BILLION USERS
AppleMagazine
|July 25, 2025
PayPal has launched a redesigned cross-border payments platform that aims to streamline international money transfers for over 2 billion users worldwide.
-
The new system reflects the company's strategy to make digital payments faster, more accessible, and better suited for a growing global base of freelancers, remote workers, families, and small businesses that operate across borders.
The upgraded platform introduces a more efficient, real-time infrastructure that allows users to send and receive funds in over 150 currencies, directly to bank accounts, mobile wallets, and local payment providers. It's a significant move for PayPal, which already processes hundreds of billions in global transactions annually but is now seeking to expand its role in remittances and small-scale global commerce.
REDUCING FRICTION IN GLOBAL TRANSFERS Cross-border payments have long been challenged by high transaction fees, long settlement times, and limited support for local payment methods in emerging markets. PayPal's new platform addresses these pain points through a unified backend that supports faster settlements, transparent pricing, and integration with popular local systems such as India's UPI, Africa's M-Pesa, and various digital wallets across Latin America and Southeast Asia.
