Super Rugby Pacific round-up
SEVU Reece became the all-time top Super Rugby try scorer with his 66th touchdown in the Crusaders’ victory over Kiwi rivals, the Highlanders.
The 32-cap New Zealand winger scored his record-breaking try in the 14th minute when he picked up at the base of the ruck and dived over to take top spot in the Super Rugby try-scoring table ahead of TJ Perenara.
Following the conversion, play was paused for a montage of Reece’s career.
“I was just speechless,” said Reece, who achieved the feat in 84 games. “I’ve seen it in basketball when someone hits a milestone, and they stop the game. It ‘was awesome. Seeing how far I’ve come, it’s a very special moment.
“Tl make the most of it because I know Julian Savea is right behind me.”
Moana Pasifica wing Savea, who has 63 career tries, briefly held the record last year before Perenara eclipsed him.
In an 80-minute thriller, Highlanders had a chance to tie the match and send it to golden point with a penalty after the full-time hooter but reserve fly-half Cameron Millar shot wide and Crusaders held on.
