Lam: Harding is good enough for England

PAT Lam's new year wish is for his Bristol captain Fitz Harding to gain international recognition after a number of eye-catching performances by the back rower.

Lam raised eyebrows last season when he made Harding, then 24, Bristol's captain ahead of more experienced contenders such as Ellis Genge and Harry Randall.

"Why would I make him captain at such a young age?" said Lam, right. "He impressed me right from the beginning and while there were experienced guys who could have been captain, it was clear Fitzy had such a big future and he was someone who led by his actions.

"He is intelligent, understands the game, can play across the back row, he keeps improving, he is respected by everyone here and he wants to get to the next level.

"I know that there are a number of outstanding back rowers in England and that they want to fast track Henry Pollock, and yes he is a good player, but Fitzy has done his time.
