SECOND-HALF goals from stalwart Adam Nicholson and Michael Sweet handed Stockton Town one of the biggest results in their history as they cruised into the fourth round of the FA Trophy for the first time.

The Anchors have enjoyed a remarkable rise from the Wearside League to the Step 3 NPL Premierin under ten years, and were handed a huge test against National League high-flyers Oldham.

Captain Nicholson has been with Stockton during every step of the way and beamed: “We stuck in the first half and we were superb in the second. We were absolutely brilliant.”

Both sides struggled to get a foothold of the game in an opening half of limited chances. Oldham’s former Preston forward Joe Garner had a strike from range which narrowly dipped over the bar.

Garner then went close again before the break as he struck the post from close range.
