GORDON IGESUND HAS PLACED FOURTH IN OUR LIST OF THE TOP 10 COACHES IN SOUTH AFRICAN FOOTBALL

Gordon Igesund is one of the true personalities of the local game - fast talking, fast hustling, a nervous bundle of energy and with more than a half-century of immersion in the local game.

He was a formidable player, originally from Durban, but has traversed the country in the colours of multiple employers over the years.

As a player he moved from Durban United to the Johannesburg limelight of Highlands Park and then Jomo Cosmos but debunked to Austria for six seasons where he played at Admira Wacker.

As a coach he had a nomadic start, first as an assistant of Walter Rautmann and then on his own at clubs like African Wanderers, AmaZulu, Klerksdorp City and Leeds United from Durban.

With D'Alberton Callies, Igesund won promotion in 1993, proving his acumen, and again with African Wanderers two seasons later. By the time the Premier Soccer League was launched in 1996, Igesund was at Manning Rangers and won the first of four championships.

What makes them all unique is the fact all were with different clubs, going on to win the title with Orlando Pirates, Santos and Mamelodi Sundowns.
