I love testing golf shoes.

- By GM staff writer Dan Parker

SHOES

No, it’s not what I thought I would be doing when I was finishing my International Journalism degree, but it’s certainly an enjoyable means to an end. The reason I enjoy it so much is the variety in this particular sub-category of golf gear. My colleagues Joe and Sam, who test golf clubs, find themselves getting a bit bogged down among a lot of very similar products, but this certainly isn’t the case with golf shoes.

The problem is, this variety can make choosing the best shoe for you a daunting task. Luckily for you, I've been busy testing more than 20 pairs of shoes this year in a range of styles, designs and prices. Here, I’ve broken them down into three key categories to help you find the best pair for your game in 2025...

Best spiked

If you're just in the market for one pair of shoes this year, I'd highly recommend going for a spiked option. Though not as versatile as a spikeless pair, my opinion is that this type of shoe provides optimal performance while being wearable in all conditions.

There are some great options from 2024 still available this year, including the Under Armour Drive Pro and Adidas Tour360 24 - two of my favourites from last year. From the new crop, the FootJoy HyperFlex stands out as one of the most comfortable spiked shoes for 2025. The looks don’t do much for me, but the all-over comfort and quality of fit more than make up for that. The padding around the heel stood out, so I would highly recommend this shoe if you have problems with sore heels or find shoes often rub in this area.
