East Kent coast
Golf Monthly
|Summer 2025
I've been travelling south to play golf on the Kent coast for over 20 years now.
-
It's one of my favourite corners of the country with amazing courses like Royal Cinque Ports and Royal St George's. There are also some great seaside towns like Deal and Margate to explore.
On this trip, though, I did something different. I stayed in the Lodge at Prince's Golf Club and played two rounds over the 27-hole links there. But before that, I headed for a course that I hadn't had the pleasure of visiting before - North Foreland at Broadstairs on the Isle of Thanet.
Founded in 1903 and expanded to 18 holes by Lord Northcliffe in 1912, it's a seaside course but not a typical links. It's built on chalk and many of the holes have more of a downland feel. The quality and testing nature of North Foreland have been underlined by the course being used in the past for final qualifying when The Open has visited Royal St George's.
