Ten cycling outfits that blend form and function to keep you riding through the winter months

In days gone by, winter riding was a stern test, as much because of the kit we had to wear as the weather we wore it in.

Bibtights were akin to the wearing the lower half of a wetsuit with some fleece backing. They kept you warm but did little to keep road spray at bay, and were so bulky it felt like you were pedalling squares a good while before those long winter reliability rides actually caused you to.

Winter tops were no better. If you wanted to keep out the cold you had to accept that you were going to be about as aero as the Michelin Man. And if you wanted something waterproof, you could choose from any number of flappy, bin bag-esque shells that caused you to sweat harder than the rain shower you were riding through.
